APPLICANT SCREENING

We all know that everyone needs to start somewhere, we do as well. The State of California states that anyone performing the task of a “guard/patrolperson” must be in physical possession of a state issued Guard Registration. This is the basic requirement an individual must possess, in order to work in the security industry. As We all know, there are leaders, and there are those that just meet the mark. In the family of Ontel Security Services, Inc., we do not meet standards, nor do we push them. At Ontel Security Services, Inc. we set the standards for our competitors to follow. Our Officers have a drive for learning, and our supervisors encourage it. Most Officers employed by our agency are firearm certified. Not many companies can make this bold statement. Also in the rank and file are former Police Officers, current Reserve Police Officers, Police Explorers & Cadets, Park Rangers, Federal Officers, and even former Secret Service Agents. This broad range of experience is what sets Ontel Security, Inc. above the rest. Our training runs as deep as F.E.M.A. (The Federal Emergency Management Agency), C.D.T. (Compliant Defense Tactics), and even Homeland Security Defense. These are some of the basic requirements we expect from applicants who desire to work for this Agency.

All applicants are re-screened by an Ontel Security Services Background Investigator prior to an Offer of Employment, even though their fingerprints were once cleared by the Department of Consumer Affairs. We re-check criminal records at the local law enforcement, State and Federal levels. Sometimes, an applicant receives clearance from the State of California to work, but an incident occurs after they have been cleared that would suspend or revoke their credentials. Due to this internal policy, nearly 50% of the applications we receive are disqualified. Ontel Security Servicesrequests references (minimum 5 years back/excluding previous employers), a drug screen, a clean driving record and no negative departures with previous employers. All Ontel Security Services Officers must be licensed by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security & Investigative Services. This license requires clearance from the Department of Justice, and the F.B.I. Once an applicant’s fingerprints have been cleared by these Governmental Agencies, the Officer will be issued a Guard Card Registration. Once the individual has a current and valid Guard Card, they are then cleared to work as a Security Officer within the State of California. Officers who carry Chemical Agents, Baton/ASP, or Firearms must have additional permits and credentials physically in their possession that license them to do so. Firearm permits are also specific to the caliber of weapon that an Officer is qualified and allowed to carry. Ontel Security Services, Inc. requires all applicants to have a valid Guard Card and Chemical Agent Credential prior to holding any position with the Agency. If an applicant holds a valid Firearm Permit, they will be required to re-certify/re-qualify their firearm 4 times per, as opposed to the twice per year requirement imposed by the State of California.

Every Ontel Security Services Officer who holds a position of rank has started with our Agency at the Officer Level. We have never promoted from outside our Agency, and we’re not about to start now. We pride ourselves in the fact that our upper Administration started at the bottom, and worked their way to the top ranks. Our promotions are based on dedication, performance, attendance, and ability to do the job.
