On June 2, 2014, Ontel Security Services, Inc. launched the Ontel Training Center. Our training center provides BSIS** approved training for anyone who wants to start a career in security or is an established security guard and needs to maintain their qualifications.
We offer the full set of basic Guard Card courses required by BSIS to qualify for a guard certification. These include:
Class 1: Powers of Arrest and WMDs and Terrorism Awareness – $70.00
This is the first mandatory class. One must complete two 4 hour courses prior to obtaining a guard card. The courses are Powers of Arrest and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) & Terrorism Awareness.
Powers of Arrest covers the following topics:
1. Definition of arrest and discussion on the implications to the subject, the guard and the company.
2. Lecture/discussion on escalation and de-escalation techniques in the use of force.
3. Lecture/discussion in the use of restraint techniques and their implications.
4. Discussion of trespass laws and implications of enforcement.
While WMD & Terrorism Awareness includes the following:
1. The Role of a Security Officer.
2. The Nature of Terrorism.
3. Weapons of Mass Destruction.
4. Coordinating and Sharing of Critical Information.
In addition, you will have to submit to a finger print background check (done off-site).
We also offer courses for the required 32 hours of additional training for new security officers. 16 hours needs to be completed within 30 days of your certification and the other 16 hours within 6 months. These courses instill the skills needed for this line of work. Topics covered range from effective report writing to customer service matters, and communication styles to environmental awareness.
Class 2: Communications and Public Relations – $70.00
Class 3: Public Relations & Documentation – $70.00
Class 4: Trespass, Criminal Laws & Radio Procedures – $70.00
Class 5: Liability & Legal Aspects – $70.00
Additional Certifications
We also offer the courses for the following related licenses. These can greatly increase your effectiveness and marketability by giving you skills and options beyond that of the basic security officer. These include:
- Chem Certification Only – $100.00
- Baton Certification Only – $185.00
- Handcuffing and Take-Down – $70.00
- Exposed Firearm – $190.00
- Exposed Firearm Re-qualification (this is required every 6 months to keep an exposed firearm permit compliant) – $95.00
- Taser – $160.00
We also teach CCW Classes for those residing in the cities of Ripon and Escalon!
Our instructors are active law enforcement officers in the area with over 20 years combined experience in law enforcement and training. Our rates are very competitive.

Although space is limited in the parking lot, there is plenty of parking on the street. We are only blocks away from several places to eat, but you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages.
ONTEL SECURITY TRAINING CENTER PAYMENT POLICY
1. Students must review the training calendar below before paying for a class.
2. Ontel Security Training Center requires that all classes are PREPAID-IN-FULL two business days BEFORE the class date. Class rosters and materials are created based upon the number of customers registered for a class two (2) business days before the class date.
A. Example 1: If the class is on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, then the payment MUST be received by 4:30 PM on the Thursday before the class.
B. Example 2: If the class is on a Wednesday, then the payment MUST be received by 4:30 PM on the Monday before the class.
3. Payments using Debit or Credit cards MUST be done online using PayPal. Payments can be made in person at 2125 Wylie Drive Suite 11 in Modesto using Cash, Check, or Money Order ONLY. The office is open to accept Cash, Check, or Money Order payments Monday to Friday, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM (excluding holidays).
4. Payments are NON-REFUNDABLE. Those who fail to come, or are late to class, will not get a refund. So please make sure to come to class and arrive On Time.
5. Anyone submitting a late payment or who comes to a class as a last minute walk-in will not be guaranteed a seat.
6. If a class is canceled by Ontel Security Training Center, the customer may choose to have the payment refunded, or kept as a credit toward a later class offering.
